Here we will take a look at 10 songs with silver in the title. Hope you enjoy.
1. Beatles – Maxwell’s Silver Hammer
A typical Paul McCartney composition for the Beatles (not one of John’s favourites then). It appeared on the Abbey Road album.
2. David Essex – Silver Dream Machine (Part 1)
This was the first UK chart hit of the 1908s for David Essex and proved to be one of his biggest hits. It peaked at number 4 in the UK charts in April 1980 and stayed on the charts for a total of 10 weeks.
3. Hawkwind – Silver Machine
This is the best known song by Hawkwind and was by far their biggest ever hit. Originally released in the Summer of 1972 it peaked at an impressive number 3 in the UK charts.
4. Hundred Reasons – Silver
Hundred Reasons have had a number of hits in the UK without really threatening to set the charts alight. This song was their 4th single, released in May 2002, and was their highest chart hit, peaking at number 15.
5. David Soul – Silver Lady
The debut UK chart hit from David Soul was Don’t Give Up On Us Baby, which reached the number one spot (as it did in the US too). This song here was his third single and only other UK number one hit.
6. Wedding Present – Silver Shorts
In 1992 Wedding Present decided it would be a good idea to release one song every month (only Elvis Presley has released 12 singles in a calendar year before). Silver Shorts was their April offering and it reached a peak of number 14 in the UK charts.
7. Cliff Richard – Silvery Rain
Love him or hate him the chart career of Cliff Richard is staggering – his first chart hit was in 1958! Silvery Rain was released in April 1971 and reached a peak of number 27 in the UK charts.
8. Felix Da Housecat – Silver Screen Shower Scene
Despite the best efforts, five years of releasing songs only gathered one top 40 hit for Felix Da Housecat and this was it. On original release in the Summer of 2001 it only reached number 55 but when it was re-released in October 2002 it managed to climb to number 39!
9. Four Seasons – Silver Star
The only number one hit that the Four Seasons enjoyed in the UK was the early 1976 hit December 63 (Oh What A Night). Silver Star was the follow up single to that and reached a peak of number 3 in the UK charts in April 1976 – it was to be their last top 10 hit in the UK.
10. Echo & The Bunnymen – Silver
Echo & The Bunnymen have had a chart career that has spanned over 30 years, over which time they have scored only 15 top 40 hits. Silver was released in April 1984 and reached a peak of number 30 in the UK charts.
